IPod playing: "Blues Minor" - John Coltrane Quartet - "Africa Brass"
We (SugahDaddy) did a gig in Hilo this past saturday night. It was a bust. The promoter didn't do a good job promoting the gig. This was our first foray into the Hilo club scene. I can tell you this much: We won't be playing at "Uncle Mikey's" anymore, well... not unless they can pay our travel, lodging, and our fee. None of this "money from the door" shit. There was this terrible opening band (i'll leave nameless....they tried their best). Its was pretty harsh. I thought our actual performance was pretty good - everyone was on. Ricky G. (great oahu drummer) was with us on skins for this gig. I'm glad we were still able to play at our best despite the crap surrounding us. Luckily, it was only one night. We're sure there's other places around there that'll treat us better. Live and learn.
The night before the Hilo gig I got to train with some Kendo people from Akita, northern part Japan. Sasaki sensei came with his wife and a few women kenshi who were 5th dan. I didn't get to do Jigeiko w/ Sasaki sensei but got to with one of the women. Despite not being able to Jigeiko w/ most of them, I still learned alot that night. They were great. I was so beat after I got back from Hilo I couldn't make it to the sunday Honbu practice. Hope I get a chance to train w/ them in the future.
On the design front. Things are starting to get busy on the design end of things. I was able to hook up a job for a local museum. pretty stoked. The only downside is that I might get too busy w/ work that I might have to shave my kendo time. I guess I'll cross that bridge when i get to it.
No new year's resolution - Just finish what you start.
